Before
Take one 1950's Wauwatosa Mikkelson colonial. Remove the entire first floor rear wall and the front entry “tunnel”. Add a Family Room, an expanded Kitchen/Dinette and two bedrooms above. You now have the making of a new, open plan and updated home in a beautiful neighborhood. Blend-in new plumbing, heating and air conditioning, new cherry cabinetry with granite countertops, lighting and many more amenities, and the house is transformed into a fresh and functional home for today's families.
This Kitchen, Dinette, and Family Room Addition satisfied the client's desire for an bright, open, and inviting space. Cherry cabinetry with granite countertops, maple flooring, and ample lighting – natural and artificial – complete the picture.

Formerly a child's bedroom, this Master Bath with dual-bowl solid-surface lavatories, custom neo-angle shower with solid-surface walls and base, maple cabinetry with custom elements, and tile floor gave the clients the upscale private retreat area they wanted. A skylight and large window help provide a sense of openness.
(The child's bedroom was relocated to the addition – with more space.)

A 2-story Addition provided this Brookfield family with needed space in the Kitchen and Dinette, an expanded Laundry, a larger bedroom for their daughter, and a sitting room retreat for Mom & Dad.
Even the exterior received special treatment including a two-level stamped & colored concrete patio, perfect for entertaining.

Loaded with custom features, this Kitchen was designed around the client's needs as an avid cook and entertainer for large groups. Custom maple cabinetry, granite countertops, and oak hardwood flooring (to match the existing) provide a relaxed yet elegant feel for a “warm and cozy, not sharp and shiny” result (in Debbie's own words). Full custom armoire-style baking center, refrigerator drawers, waste pullout, separate prep and cleanup sinks, even a folding step-stool in a convenient roll-out make the Kitchen not only beautiful, but functional

Kitchen Remodel - Brian & Mary G. - Wauwatosa, WI

After (Photo by: David Bader)

Before(Note the metal cabinetry)
Brian and Mary loved their Wauwatosa home – except for the boxed-in closed-in Kitchen. To create a more open feel, two load-bearing walls were replaced with large wood headers.
Standard Hickory cabinetry, customized to suit the needs of the reconfigured space are topped with laminate tops (for the time being,. . .) New maple hardwood flooring throughout the newly-expanded Kitchen, the adjacent Parlor space and the Living Room gave the space the open, airy feel they were after.
Kitchen Remodel - Bob K. - Oak Creek, WI

Before - Guess Bob really wanted
the old cabinets GONE!
The old Kitchen had to go, and Bob missed the skylights from his previous home. Out went the ceiling, in went a deep cathedral structure with greater insulation but most of all an open and updated space. New standard oak cabinets with laminate tops, floating maple floor, vaulted ceiling, and skylights make this modest remodel look like a higher-end space.

The original Kitchen in this unique Wauwatosa Cape Cod had seen it's day. New needs, more light, and a desire for a space suitable for entertaining cried out for a rejuvenation.
The lighting and electrical supply was sub-standard. The floor was impossible to clean.
On the other hand, the portable dishwasher was still working! An addition was not practical on the lot, but the Kitchen needed just that little bit more space, which was found above the basement stairway. A closet behind was reconfigured and the floor structure was modified to allow the refrigerator and cabinetry to fit.
New semi-custom maple cabinetry with many special features (and customize some more), Juparana Crema Mara granite countertops, and maple hardwood flooring created the basis for the Kitchen remodel.
Most importantly, multiple layers of light make this a space where Diane can work well (and happily).
Bath Remodel (2nd Floor) - Dan & Diane M. - Wauwatosa, WI

Before
The cramped half-bath (right) didn't suit the needs of this Wauwatosa family. A shower was needed for frequent weekend visitors, and the bath was sorely in need of updating.

After (Photo by David Bader)
Trouble was: how to add a shower when the room was tucked under the roofline of the Cape Cod styled home without a costly addition? Answer: create a “linear” Bath with the shower in the center of a longer room. Incorporate the existing attic window, and voila', a space suitable for visitors – or even for the owners.
Diane was so pleased with the result, she gave it a name: her “Windy Blue Bathroom,” in part for the Sherwin-Williams “Windy Blue” walls.

The 40's vintage bath with yellow and cranberry tile somehow didn't look right with the original pink fixtures. And, the wall-to-wall mirrors gave the whole room a “train station” appearance Diane didn't care for.
New Kohler pedestal lav and water closet in biscuit blends right in while the original tile is retained for it's original character. Add an oversized custom medicine cabinet and lots of light (on a dimmer. . .), and the Bath is reborn for a new century.

Anne had very definite ideas of what her remodeled bath should look like and contain. She got what she asked for, and more.
Standard cherry cabinets setup with customized features, three tall linen cabinets for abundant storage, granite counter and diagonal tile floor/shower create for her a beautiful yet functional space.
